Thin Wall Marble and Granite Drill Bits – Diamond Core Bits for Natural Stone
Thin wall marble and granite drill bits feature a narrow diamond-impregnated crown wall that minimizes the kerf (material removed) during core drilling in expensive natural stone surfaces. The thinner wall reduces the torque required to advance the bit, generates less heat at the cutting zone, and produces a cleaner hole edge compared to thick-wall diamond cores – critical when drilling faucet holes and soap dispenser openings in polished granite and marble countertops where any chip or crack in the surrounding surface means replacing the entire slab.
The thin wall design also reduces the pressure required to hold the bit on course through hard stone, making it more forgiving for countertop installers who are drilling freehand rather than using a drill guide or fixed drill press. Available in the most common countertop hole diameters – 1-3/8 inch for single-handle faucet bodies, 1-1/2 inch for two-handle faucet trim, and 1/2 inch for soap dispensers and filtration tap holes.
Always drill with water cooling. Freehand drilling with a standard cordless drill is possible with thin wall bits when a rubber water dam (suction-cup dam filled with water) is used at the drill entry point.
